XERF Lifting in Korea: Serf for Thin Skin

XERF, often written as Serf in Korea, is a radiofrequency lifting device that uses two RF frequencies to heat the skin at controlled depths. It firms and tightens with less pain than many RF treatments.

It is the lifting Dr. Ha recommends most often for people who are worried that a strong lift will make their face look hollow: thin skin, cheeks that are already flat under the cheekbones, and early sagging rather than heavy jowls.

XERF also appears in several of the clinic’s published before-and-after cases, alone and combined with Hylo-Wave or filler. Here is how it works, who it suits, and what it costs in Seoul.

How it works

Radiofrequency energy heats the skin from within. XERF combines two frequencies so the doctor can adjust how deep the heat goes, layer by layer, instead of using one fixed depth.

The heat tightens existing collagen and triggers new collagen and elastin over the following weeks. The aim is denser, firmer skin that holds its shape better, which also smooths texture and evens out dull tone.

Because XERF works on skin density instead of pulling the deep layers hard or reducing fat, it suits faces that cannot afford to lose volume. It pairs well with volume treatments like Hylo-Wave.

Who it suits

• Thin or sensitive skin that finds strong lifting hard to tolerate

Dr. Ha’s note

Many people who ask me for lifting say the same thing: they want firmer skin, but they are afraid their face will cave in. For thin skin with flat cheeks, I don’t push a strong lift. When I describe XERF, I call it a treatment that rebuilds the skin’s support from inside rather than one that hauls the face upward. If your face is peanut-shaped, with dips under the cheekbones, I usually pair XERF with Hylo-Wave so firmness and volume improve together. If you have a clear double chin or heavy jowls, XERF alone will likely feel too mild, and I will say so and suggest Onda or Ulthera instead. Sometimes the right answer is a different order, or doing less.

Aftercare

• Mild warmth and swelling may last a short time.
• Avoid alcohol and smoking for about a week before and after.
• Avoid strong massage, saunas and jjimjilbang for about a week.
• Washing and makeup are fine the same day.
• Use sunscreen daily.
• Blisters are uncommon; contact the clinic if one appears.
• Results vary between people.
