Ultherapy (often called Ulthera) is a non-surgical lift that uses focused ultrasound to heat the deep support layer of the face. Peachcell uses Ultherapy PRIME, the newest version made by Merz, with a genuine device and genuine cartridges.
People usually search for Ultherapy in Korea when the jawline has started to blur, the lower cheeks hang over the jaw (jowls), or the lines from the nose and mouth get deeper because the cheek has slid down. It is the device we reach for when sagging sits deep, under the skin and fat.
Ulthera is the strongest lifting device on our menu, and it is not the right first step for everyone. Below we explain who it suits, who should start elsewhere, and what it costs at our Gangnam clinic near Sinsa Station.
How it works
Ulthera focuses ultrasound energy to tiny points under the skin, the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight. Each point heats to the level where collagen contracts, while the skin surface stays intact.
The deepest cartridge (4.5 mm) reaches the SMAS, the fibrous layer that surgeons tighten during a facelift. Shallower cartridges (3.0 mm and 1.5 mm) work in the deep and upper dermis. The doctor chooses depths by area: deeper along the jaw and lower cheek, shallower on thinner zones.
The PRIME handpiece shows a live ultrasound image of your tissue layers before each line is delivered, so the doctor can confirm the depth and avoid bone and thin areas. That imaging is the main difference from most other HIFU devices.
Some tightening can be felt right away. The main change comes as new collagen forms, usually over 2 to 3 months. Results vary from person to person.
Who it suits
- Jowls and a jawline that has lost its edge
- Deep sagging in the lower cheek and around the mouth (marionette area)
- Heaviness under the chin and a soft double-chin line
- Nasolabial folds that deepened because the cheek has dropped
- People who want a stronger non-surgical lift and can tolerate some discomfort
When another option fits better
- A thin face with hollow cheeks (a “peanut-shaped” face): strong deep heating can make it look more tired. XERF plus Hylo-Wave usually fits better.
- A round face where the main issue is fat along the jaw: Onda targets fat and is often the better match, alone or with Ulthera.
- Early laxity and dull, crepey skin texture: Thermage FLX or XERF works more on the skin itself.
- Very low pain tolerance: Titanium or Onda is a gentler place to start.
Dr. Ha’s note
Ulthera is the device I recommend when sagging is deep: a heavy jowl, a marionette line that pulls the mouth down, a jaw that has lost its line. I don’t recommend it just because someone asks for the strongest option. On a thin face with little volume, deep heating can leave the cheeks looking flatter, and I would rather start with XERF and a booster. When I do use Ulthera, I decide the depth and shot count line by line from the live image, with more energy along the jaw and less where the face is already lean. I try most treatments on myself before I offer them, and this one is honestly among the more uncomfortable, so I tell patients what to expect before we start.
Aftercare
- Warmth and mild swelling are common for a short time and settle on their own.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for about a week before and after, since both can increase inflammation.
- Skip strong facial massage, saunas and jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses) for about a week.
- You can wash your face and wear makeup the same day.
- Use sunscreen every day.
- Blisters are uncommon but possible. If you see one, contact the clinic so we can treat it properly.
- Results differ between people; we review progress with you after the collagen has had time to build.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Ultherapy cost in Korea at Peachcell?
Peachcell’s listed price in winter 2026: 100 shots ₩200,000, 300 shots ₩390,000. Eye Ulthera 225 shots ₩1,290,000, 450 shots ₩2,590,000. These are event prices that change. VAT (10%) is added on top, and your final quote is confirmed after the consultation. See the full winter 2026 price list.
What does “shots” mean, and how many do I need?
One shot is one line of focused ultrasound points. More shots cover more area or add layers. A full lower face often takes a few hundred shots, but the number depends on your face size, how deep the sagging is and which areas need it. The doctor sets it at the consultation.
Does Ulthera hurt?
It is one of the more uncomfortable lifting treatments. Most people describe a deep, sharp heat, strongest along the jawbone. Numbing cream helps, and the doctor can adjust energy in sensitive spots. In Dr. Ha’s pain-score video he rates it after trying it himself.
How long do results last?
Results build over 2 to 3 months as collagen forms. Many people keep a visible effect for around a year, then repeat. Aging continues, and results vary.
Can I fly home right after Ulthera?
Yes, most people can fly the next day. There is no wound to care for. Swelling or tenderness, if any, is usually mild. If you want the doctor to check you before you leave, book it early in your trip.
Results vary by individual. Every treatment plan is decided after an in-person consultation with the doctor.
